BBC NEWS (1st May 2012): UK border force staff cut by 10% according to leaked data

Known Details

The UK Border Agency considers applications for migrants to remain in the UK as visitors, students, workers. refugees etc. Hundreds of posts are being cut with no reduction in workload. This is likely to lead to increased delays and backlogs in decisions being made.

1,453 staff at the Home Office UK Border Agency in Croydon were told in a meeting on 1st March 2011 that 776 of their posts were being cut.

Staff in the areas facing cuts mainly:

– consider applications from foreign nationals to remain in the UK under the Immigration Rules
– consider asylum applications
– manage foreign national prisoners appropriately

The majority of the posts being cut are frontline decision-making positions.
